Use your own font

Show a typeface you have a license for on your pages and in your emails.

7 steps · About 5 minutes · Needs: Your font files at an https address, as WOFF2, WOFF, OTF or TTF, up to 8 MB each.

  1. Select Customize in the account bar

    Your accountCustomize
  2. Select the Look tab, then Your own font at the foot of Fonts

  3. Type the font's name in Name

  4. In Use it for, choose where the font goes

    - Headings - Body text - Headings and body text

It starts at Nothing, so no page changes until you choose.

  5. Under Files, add the address of each file and choose its weight and style

Add a file for every weight and style you use. Add a file gives you another row. A variable font needs one file, with Variable as its weight.

  6. Select Save

When you save a file, Tito downloads a copy and serves it with your pages. Check that your font license lets the files be served for your website.
    go.tito.io/acme/admin/customize?tab=look&font=1&zoom=50
  7. Select Publish

Where your font appears

Your font appears on your own site, in your emails and in the preview in Customize. Pages on the shared address use the standard design.

The fonts you already picked become the fallback. If a file fails to load, your pages use those.

In an email, Headings puts your font on the headings and buttons. Body text or Headings and body text puts it on the whole email. Apple Mail, and Mail on iPhone and iPad, show your font. Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo show a standard one.

Good to know

  • A file that can't be downloaded has a note under it in Customize saying why. Tito keeps trying.
  • A new version of a file is picked up within a week, because Tito checks each address once a week. To use it straight away, upload it to a new address and change the file in Customize.
  • A font that comes with your readers' devices, like Avenir on Apple devices, needs no files. Give it a Name, add no files, and choose where it goes in Use it for. It's used in your emails only, and only by readers whose device has it.
  • Check which characters your files cover. The fonts we host each have a second file for Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovak, so a word in those languages doesn't change typeface halfway through. With your own files, that's up to you.
  • A theme file can name your font too. Whoever writes your theme adds the family name and a link to one file per weight. See Custom themes.
