Require a companion ticket

Stop a ticket being bought on its own, and have checkout offer the tickets that can go with it.

8 steps · About 6 minutes · Needs: Both ticket types already set up

  1. Open the type that can't be bought alone, and select Advanced on its edit form

The rule belongs to the ticket that needs the companion. If a child ticket needs an adult with it, you set the rule on the child ticket.

  2. Under Registration, turn on Needs a companion ticket

    go.tito.io/acme/summer-fetes-summer-fete/admin/ticket-types/1/edit?tab=advanced
  3. Tick the Companion tickets

Tick every ticket that can come along. Any of them counts, and they count together. With an adult and a senior ticket ticked, an order with one of each has two companions.

  4. Set Companions needed

  5. Choose how the companions are counted

Once per order asks for that many companions in any order with this ticket, however many of this ticket it has. By how many of this ticket asks for them per a number of this ticket, which you set in For every. "1 companion for every 3" means an order with four of this ticket needs two companions. The number always rounds up.

  6. Choose Recommended or Required

Recommended shows people a note they can go past. Required stops checkout until the order has enough, and offers to add them in one tap, with a button for each companion ticket.

  7. Check the What people will read preview

It shows the sentence people see.

  8. Select Save ticket type

Changing the rule from the companion's page

The companion ticket lists the rule on its own page too, under Needed with, with a row for every type that needs it. Select the count on a row to change the companions, the numbers or the strictness, or to select Remove this rule.

Good to know

The rule counts within a single order. Somebody who bought their own ticket last week, and comes back for the child's, is asked for another companion.

A required rule pauses when none of its companions can be bought.

If every companion ticket sells out or goes off sale, the sale goes through without one. The type's own page shows a warning until a companion is available again.

API

You can set companion and free-ticket rules through the API. See the API reference.
